The kids are now out of the house and time for a New Look that is clean, stylish and QUIET. Notice the 2 seats at the end of this L-shaped kitchen design, his and hers. The hectic years of raising an active family have now been replaced with simplicity and this design was to represent that transformation. In this case, the actual footprint did not change. Our customer was interested in a straight line kitchen layout with an island for food preparation. 

Modern Kitchen Cabinet Design

Modern grey kitchen cabinets were used for above the countertop. Our cabinet makers over at Harmoni Kitchens allow us and our clients to Express Ourselves. So, we went with these Capri style cabinet doors with a laminate finish. The hardware is hidden as you would expect in most modern kitchen cabinet designs. There is plenty of sunlight in this kitchen to consider when choosing the color scheme. That allows us to choose some darker wood finishes. We chose a walnut finish for the perimeter cabinetry inviting the light to reflect off of the stainless steel refrigerator and colored glass doors. Our team at Bentwood Cabinetry took our design ideas and color selection to the next level. They always do and we appreciate that partnership. Cabinet installation is so much smoother when you have great custom cabinet makers to work with. 

Kitchen Island Designs with a Sink

We have done many kitchen island designs with seating and quite a few peninsula island kitchen designs like this one. But this one is very unique for us. The client wanted a full kitchen sink that was equipped with tools for the home chef. We went with an Ideal Workstation from The Galley. These workstations come with fruit and vegetable was caddy’s, drying racks and cutting stations that make dinner preparation a breeze.

The modular cover comes in several finishes and we went with a Golden Bamboo color to contrast with the white countertops. The sink hardware is from California Faucets. We selected the Poetto model for its simplicity, slim lines and the magnetic docking secures the spray head into the spout. Again, we selected a light grey laminate finish for the cabinetry and out installation team handled all the plumbing and electrical work as well. The task lighting above the island fits the modern motif perfectly.


From this angle below you can see how the daytime light dominates the space and reflects off of the white, glass and light grey surfaces. The pendant lights above the dining area are more decorative but do serve the purpose of subtle light in the evenings. A dimmer switch was installed to help set that mood in the evenings and overnight. Under the grey cabinets you will notice there is a tile backsplash. It is actually on either side of the window. We went with a large format tile in a polished white finish from Porcelanosa. It too captures and reflects the sunlight in this kitchen. The large format tile gives us only two seams to keep clean. No grout line to be concerned about.

Miele Kitchen Appliance Package Meets our Customers Approval

Miele appliances are very good and our customers rave about their longevity. In most cases, this luxury high end brand of appliances last beyond 20 years. Because we selected a 30” convection oven, a 30” speed oven, an induction cooktop and this Puristic ventilation hood, we benefited from the Miele rebate package that was in play at the time. As you can see from these pictures, these appliances definitely meets our customer’s desire for a simple, clean & trendy kitchen.
