A modern looking farmhouse kitchen requires the right blend of ingredients, colors and texture to make it work. Traditional farmhouse kitchens may leverage exposed wood beams, sliding barn doors for an entryway, period lighting using cast iron and perhaps an old fashion range with a stovepipe to capture the that farmhouse groove. In this case below, we chose to go in a different direction.
White Modern Farmhouse Kitchen
Smart stainless-steel appliances modernize the look of this kitchen. White painted shaker cabinetry with copper hardware help blend a rustic look with the modern appliances. We went with a 3cm thick slab of Silestone rather than wood or granite. Too often designers try to force a maple or cherry butcher block countertop to give a kitchen “The Farmhouse” feel. We tend to shy away from wood as a countertop material, especially is the family is active in the kitchen. The maintenance required to keep wood looking good is just too much for active families.
The color we chose for the Silestone was Calcutta Gold. It has a light grey veining set in a creamy white stone. This color compliments the surfside white color we painted the cabinets. We used a larger 4 x 8 inch tile for our backsplash. The Pewter blended greys and browns gave us the contrast we were looking for.
Copper Farmhouse Sink
Of course we needed a Farmhouse style sink. But not just any sink. We had a custom-made copper sink that is 33” wide and 8” deep made for this kitchen.
Havens Luxury Metals uses high quality materials, craftsmanship and a touch of love for every copper sink they have made for us over the years.
When installed with an undermount cabinet, the 1 ½” apron lines up perfectly with the dishwasher and cutlery drawer. We purchased copper bin pulls made from solid brass for the sliding drawers and a brushed metal faucet that doubles as a spray head for the kitchen sink.
The hanging pendant light fixtures were a nice find in one of our many lighting catalogs. We are using undercabinet LED lighting and high hats with dimmers for the primary task lighting for this kitchen. The two over the kitchen island are really there for when a quick meal is enjoyed in the island seating area.
